Frank E. Mitchell
1929-2004
Born and raised in Douglas County - Frank Mitchell had a love for this
area. He attended public schools here, Winston Elementary and graduated
from Douglas County High School in 1946.
He later served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1955. After coming back to
Douglasville He worked for W.D. Alexander company in Atlanta, the GE
Distributor for a number of years doing service in the Atlanta area, and in
the evenings he would come to Douglasville and do service at night for
Economy Auto Store in Downtown Douglasville - later opening Appliance
Service Center and then changing the name to Mitchell Appliance Company -
a Full service GE Dealer - Sales - Service - Parts.
Frank always kept a hands on position within the company and always cared
for the customers - he spent many holidays and evenings taking care of
those “ appliance emergencies “, such as the oven unit burning out right
in the middle of Thanksgiving cooking…Frank saved many a Thanksgiving &
Christmas dinner over the years. He would go out of his way to try to take
care of whatever a customer needed. Folks knew they could count on him as
well. He formed many lasting friendships over the years.
He was a quiet man, many would say - but he was an honest man - and a man
of integrity. He was a Christian man who came to know the Lord in the 1970’s.
Frank semi-retired in early 2001 and totally in 2004, leaving his wife
Nell, son Mike, daughter Vickie and Grandson Nathan & his wife Tiffany
to take care of the business.
Frank passed away March 20, 2004
